Variable
Also: symbolic quantity
A named symbol whose value may change or be unknown.
A variable has a domain, meaning, units, and often a frame or time index that must remain consistent.
Example In V = IR, I denotes current in amperes rather than an unlabeled number.
Common misconception The same letter does not guarantee the same physical meaning in different equations.
