Transistor
Also: semiconductor switch, amplifying device
A controllable device used to switch or amplify electrical signals.
A small terminal signal controls a larger current or voltage subject to topology, bias, ratings, and dissipation.
Example A transistor lets a GPIO control a motor driver input or small load without supplying load current directly.
Common misconception A transistor is not an ideal relay and still has voltage, current, thermal, and switching limits.
