Torque
Also: shaft torque
Rotational effort produced by a force acting through a lever arm.
Torque is r×F and rotational power is τω; available torque depends on speed, current, gearing, and thermal limits.
- Units
- newton-metre (N·m)
- Formula
τ = rF sinθ
Example 6 N at a 32.5 mm wheel radius requires 0.195 N·m.
Common misconception High torque does not imply high power when angular speed is low; at stall mechanical power is zero.
