Threshold
Also: decision threshold
A boundary used to classify a continuous value into different states.
Threshold selection trades false positives and false negatives and may include hysteresis, calibration, or an undefined region.
Example Pixels above intensity 180 may be classified as bright features.
Common misconception A threshold is a chosen decision rule, not a natural truth guaranteed to generalize.
