Stall current
Also: locked-rotor current
Motor current when the shaft is not turning at a stated voltage and condition.
With back-EMF near zero, current is limited mainly by winding, driver, wiring, and source resistance; heating is severe.
- Units
- ampere (A)
- Formula
I_stall ≈ V/R_total
Example A 6 V path totaling 3.6 Ω predicts 1.67 A stall current.
Common misconception Free-run current is not a safe substitute for driver peak-current selection.
