Stability margin
Also: gain margin, phase margin
A measure of how much modeled loop change remains before instability.
Gain and phase margins are frequency-domain properties of an open-loop model and do not cover every nonlinearity or uncertainty.
Example Added sensor delay can reduce phase margin even when DC gain is unchanged.
Common misconception A positive nominal margin is not a safety certification for the physical machine.
