Resistance
Also: electrical resistance
How strongly a circuit element opposes current for a given voltage.
Static resistance is V/I at an operating point; only ohmic elements maintain a constant ratio across the relevant range.
- Units
- ohm (Ω = V/A)
- Formula
R = V/I
Example 3 V across 1 kΩ gives 3 mA for an ideal resistor.
Common misconception Every component is not a fixed resistor, and resistance does not consume current.
