Radial load
Also: transverse bearing load
A load acting perpendicular to a shaft's axis.
Bearing radial capacity and life depend on load magnitude, direction, speed, lubrication, fit, and combined axial load.
Example A belt pulling sideways on a pulley places radial load on its bearings.
Common misconception A bearing that supports radial load may have little allowable thrust capacity.
