Quantization
Also: finite-step representation
Mapping a continuous range or fine values into discrete levels.
Quantization introduces bounded rounding error under ideal conditions and can create limit cycles, clipping, or structured error in feedback.
Example A 12-bit ADC maps its input range into 4096 codes.
Common misconception More bits do not guarantee equivalent noise-free or accurate bits.
