Provenance
Also: data lineage, source history
A record of where an artifact or claim came from and how it changed.
Provenance links source identity, version, transformations, authorship, timestamps, licenses, and raw evidence to derived outputs.
Example A plot cites the raw log, script revision, test setup, and processing parameters.
Common misconception A copied value with a URL but no version or transformation history has weak provenance.
