Battery protection circuit
Also: pack protection, BMS protection
Electronics that interrupt a battery path when selected unsafe conditions are detected.
Typical functions include overcharge, over-discharge, overcurrent, and short-circuit response, each with specified thresholds and limitations.
Example A protected pack may disconnect during a motor surge that exceeds its current threshold.
Common misconception Protection does not make damaged cells safe or replace compatible charging and mechanical containment.
