Polarity
Also: electrical orientation
The declared positive and negative orientation of voltage, current, or a polarized component.
Polarity establishes sign conventions and safe component orientation; reversing it changes equations and can damage polarized devices.
Example An electrolytic capacitor's negative terminal must match the lower-potential node within its rating.
Common misconception Ground symbols do not eliminate the need to check connector polarity.
