Phase lag
Also: phase delay
An output's periodic response occurring later in cycle than its input.
Phase is frequency-dependent; delay and stored-energy dynamics consume feedback phase margin and can promote oscillation.
- Units
- degree or radian
Example A filtered sensor sinusoid may lag the physical motion more at higher frequency.
Common misconception Phase lag is not always equivalent to one fixed time delay across frequencies.
