Interference fit
Also: press fit
A fit where the shaft is larger than the hole before assembly.
Interference creates contact pressure and retention but raises assembly force and material stress; temperature and material matter.
Example A bearing outer ring may press into a carefully toleranced housing.
Common misconception Any oversized part is not a valid press fit; excessive interference can crack or distort components.
