Common ground
Also: shared reference
A shared electrical reference that lets connected circuits interpret signal voltages consistently.
Return-current paths have impedance and topology; common reference does not imply zero noise or permission to join isolated systems.
Example A controller and motor driver logic interface normally share a reference ground.
Common misconception Same nominal voltage without a reference connection does not guarantee valid signaling.
