Flattening when a signal exceeds the representable or allowed range.
Samples pin at a minimum or maximum code, losing amplitude and waveform information beyond the limit.
Example An ADC input above its reference repeatedly reports full-scale code.
Common misconception A flat maximum is not proof the physical signal became constant.
