Burden voltage
Also: ammeter burden
The voltage drop introduced by a current-measuring instrument.
An ammeter's shunt and protection path add series impedance, potentially reducing circuit current and changing operation.
- Units
- volts (V)
Example A 0.2 V burden in a 1 V sensor loop is a major disturbance.
Common misconception Current mode is not an ideal zero-ohm wire in real measurements.
